Now it was Christine's turn to stare in shock. When finally she recovered she replied-- "Um...yes, I am Christine Antonetta. I'm afraid I can't give you a surname. Do I...know you?" The man continued to look at her. "You are the image of your mother." This was just too weird for Chris to remain confusedly taciturn. "My mother?! What do you know about my mother? We're not...related?" The man nodded vaguely. "I believe you're my daughter."

Desmond listened in shock of his own. "Her father?" He thought to himself. He really couldn't ask any questions cause she knew no more than he did at the moment. This moment made him think of an other thing that was needing his attention for some time now. But, for the moment he didn't drift away from reality his thoughts could wait.
((Rah, used the word moment too much))

((I do that too with the words "fortunately" and "unfortunately" among other things.))
Christine just stood there looking shocked. Her mind was reeling. The pieces fit...he knew her name, he claimed she looked like her mother, he was old enough to be her dad, he was in the town where she had been born. And, come to think of it, the young woman standing bewildered a few steps behind him resembled Chris in a way, in more ways than just their nearly identical eye color. At length he continued, "Perhaps you had better come with us. And your...escort," he said, referring to Desmond. With that he turned and said a few whispered words to the young woman, and he led them to a highly expensive carriage pulled by magnificent horses that was parked and guarded on the other side of the cobbled street. Chris, curious in her confusion, stepped reluctantly into the carriage and motioned slightly for Gillette to do the same.

Desmond fallowed to the fancy carriage. Nothing he hasn't seen before. It's just been awhile. After Christine had stepped in and motioned for him to come in after he did just that. He sat next to Christine still silent and looking around.

Christine sat passively, nervously, looking from one person to the next. The footman. The driver with his long whip and the graceful black horses--she'd never been exposed to anything of the sort. She looked briefly to Desmond, the one familiar face. To her...father...she asked a little warily-- "Who are you, exactly, anyway?" "Good Lord, have I gone and forgotten to introduce myself? Lord Charles Earnshawe, at your service. And my daughter, Juliet." he replied, gesturing to the young woman who was managing a shy, rather confused smile partially at Chris...but mainly at Desmond. Christine smiled vaguely as well, trying to think of something to say. "Then that makes me...Christine Earnshawe?" "I imagine it does. But please allow me to be quite frank...where the devil have you been all this time?" All this time. Chris could not remember a time when she had known this man. Never seen him nor heard of him. Had he known of her in the first few weeks of her life before becoming the property of the church she'd lived her entire life on land? She didn't know. "I never knew you. I was always told you were a soldier of some sort." "Whoever told you a ridiculous thing like that? I've never served a day in the militia. I'm a friend and advisor to the governor." "Oh, I see. Hence the title, no doubt." "Indeed. When you come, you will be welcomed. You will be known. Young ladies of noble blood are greatly respected in the high circles." "I'm glad. I admit...I feel very awkward and unwelcome, to be plain about it. How do you even know for sure we're related?" "I don't doubt you feel strange, because the situation is certainly peculiar. But you're wrong on the second note, for you could not be more welcome. I am quite certain you're the one. But who is...?" Charles trailed off here, referring to Gillette.

Desmond just sat there as well listening to Christine's conversation with "Lord Charles Earnshawe". The name didn't sound familiar at all. Though, Gillette was only a recently upgraded Commodore. So he did not know of every high ranking person over the seas. Desmond caught Juliet somewhat smiling shyly. He just sorta tipped his head gesturing a hello. When Lord Charles Earnshaw directed his attention toward him Desmond wasn't quite sure whether he should reveal his name or not. Surely the news about the crime has spreaded this far and Lord Charles is advisor of the Governor. Showing no sign of panic, though he felt it inside, he simply spoke "It seems I've done the same and forgotten to introduce myself." He added a small smile with that. "I'm a recently upgraded Commodore in Redmond." Desmond said wondering the reaction of Lord Charles.

"Hmm, yes, very good," Charles replied thoughtfully in a low-ish voice. Of course he assumed that Desmond was related to Chris somehow, but not brother or valet or footman. His thoughts were interrupted by Chris asking another question.
"Could you maybe explain this more fully?" she wanted to know. "Would you rather hear it now, or shall we wait until we get to the manour?" "Erm...I guess it can wait," she replied, although she would rather have heard right away. By now the carriage was going through a large wrought-iron gate to a long smooth gravel drive. Chris looked out of the window and saw what must be the manour. It was immensely large and beautiful. She had far underestimated this Earnshawe person's wealth.

Desmond didn't say anymore after Lord Charles had directed his attention to Christine again. He felt uncomfortable around this man that claimed to be Christine's father. Desmond didn't know why he just did. As the horses pulled the carriage down the gravel road and past the tall iron gates Gillette turned his head slightly to get a glimpse of the manour.
